Ulcerative Colitis research studies are looking for volunteers in Florida, with study locations in Miami.
Ulcerative colitis can turn meals, work and sleep into plans built around the nearest bathroom. Research in this area follows how flares come and go in the large intestine, and how it fits with a person's current treatment is settled before anything begins.
Ulcerative colitis inflames the lining of the large intestine, and during a flare that can mean urgent, loose or bloody stools many times a day. Research in this area looks at colitis that is active right now, follows how symptoms change over weeks and months, and studies medicines that work differently from the ones already available.
Taking part usually starts with a conversation about recent flares and the medicines tried so far, then visits with routine lab work and check-ins about bowel symptoms. The clinical team explains each step and the schedule before anyone decides. A person's own gastroenterologist stays part of their care.
Every ulcerative colitis program is approved by an independent review board before it opens. Register your interest and the clinical team will call to explain what is open nearby and answer questions.

The BonfireFrequently asked questions
Will I have to stop the medicine I take for my colitis?
It depends on the program. The clinical team goes over current medicines on the first call, and nothing changes without the person's gastroenterologist knowing.
Does an ostomy or past colon surgery matter?
It can. Some programs do not include people with an ostomy or a pouch, or people who had major surgery in the last few weeks. The clinical team goes over this on the first call.
What happens at a follow-up visit?
Questions about bowel habits and flares since the last visit, a short health check and routine lab work. The schedule is shared ahead of time so a person can plan around work.
Can I keep seeing my own GI doctor?
Yes. Taking part runs alongside regular care, and the team can keep a person's doctor informed when asked.
How long does an ulcerative colitis program run?
Usually several months, because flares come and go. The clinical team shares the full calendar before anyone decides.
Is there compensation for taking part?
Compensation may be available for your time and inconvenience.
