Frequently asked questions

from Encore Medical Research
What age do I need to be to join this study?

You must be between 18 and 65 years old to qualify for this study.

What is this study for?

This study is for people who have Graves’ disease, a condition where the immune system causes the thyroid to become overactive. The study will test a new medication to assess its safety and its mechanism of action.

Can I join if I’m currently taking medication for Graves’ disease?

You may still qualify if you are being treated with certain medications for Graves’ disease. The study team will ask about your current and past treatments to determine if you’re eligible.

Will I need to use birth control during the study?

Yes. If you can become pregnant or get someone pregnant, you’ll need to follow specific birth control guidelines during the study. The study team will explain what applies to you.

Do I need recent thyroid lab results to join?

Having recent thyroid panel results (TSH, T3, T4) are required for eligibility screening. If you do not have them, our team can discuss next steps when you apply.

What happens after I fill out the form?

A member of the Encore Medical Research team will contact you to review your information and walk you through the next steps.

Can I join if I take Methimazole?

Yes — patients currently on Methimazole may still qualify. Our team will review your treatment history to confirm eligibility.

Do I need to stop my antithyroid medication to participate?

Not necessarily. Patients on antithyroid drugs like Methimazole may still be eligible. The team will guide you on next steps.

Where is this trial located in South Florida?

We are enrolling across South Florida, including Miami and Broward County. Contact us to find the nearest site.

What are the symptoms this study targets?

Rapid heartbeat, anxiety, weight loss, fatigue, and other overactive thyroid symptoms caused by Graves' disease.

Is this trial for hyperthyroidism or Graves' disease specifically?

Both — Graves' disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. This trial is designed specifically for people with a Graves' disease diagnosis.
